14 May 09Thought I should do a bit of an update..the party is over its back to work on the house...I'm wasting a few hours waiting on my download of Green Day's new album. I can get it from midnight tonight....
As far as the build goes ...cladding continues...gable end done!
Scaffoldings up to sort out front corner and above lower window which you can just see and no more..
More decking boards fitted to link from the balcony across the front of the windows. This is a service deck for window cleaning and will not be accessible from the balcony.
View from the balcony so that it makes more sense...
And the full thing from below...getting there but ran out of boards for cladding so time to order more...

Back to work in the bathroom since its raining again! First job is to finish off the ductwork for the heat recovery unit and plasterboard the corner.. duct done
Plasterboard the ceiling
Then the walls..
So a bit of electrics, plasterboarding, joinery and now onto tiling..its the joys of being a self builder! Starting with mega expensive ( too me) mosiac tiles
They are going floor to ceiling around the mirror..
Glass is here for the stairs at long last! I love it ..slight improvement over the plywood we have lived with!
If all this glass isn't enough, same design, same concept out on the balcony and more glass again!
Yup youve guessed it...raining again!

A phone call out of the blue today sets Jimmy into panic mode. Guys are coming tomorrow to start work on the driveway and I have a garage to empty and the partition to remove.....so its action stations! All this stuff has to go!
Two hours later....
Next the wall comes down...
Slabs removed so a temporary path is made for tomorrow..
And finishing the plasterboarding in the utility room...frame on left and box on ceiling is for my own special invention...all will become clear soon enough!

Work starts on the driveway ...yes it really was a nice day! Its not a job for Jimmy to tackle so ASAP Contracts get stuck into it.
Drainage goes in...also seperates the two areas..concrete from packed bottoming to prevent different expansion/contraction rates and hopefully a better seal!
So Jimmy missed all that by being at work so this is what he saw when he got home..

Progressing with the driveway...as usual dog is keeping an eye on the workmanship.
Driveway prepared to Type B Fig 5.6 as required...
Final prep before asphalt goes down ...
Base first..
Compacted with a wacker!
Tack coat then steaming hot asphalt....then coated granite chips..for grip and wear they tell me.
Garage completed...can't be many people out there with a finished floor like this in their garage...part of the design before you ask and is the waterproof layer required for the rooms below..
After being wackered...the bomag roller is out to compact it down for the waterproof seal..
Just before it gets wackered..and rolled
Aye its still hot! ... no its stoor fae the cutting disk if you look closely.
Job Done!
Looking good...but can't drive on it for a couple of days so yet to feel the thrill of parking in my garage 2.6 metres above ground level!

Cladding Cladding and more cladding..just a half board in the foreground corner to do and the far side and it will come to an end ..thats the target for this weekend..
The last board is nailed in place! At last !!!
Now that the cladding is done its time to fit a support for the very last deck, above our bedroom, below the kitchen.
Boards passed up for fitting..
Not long now untll the front is complete!
Finally go back to the top deck to fit the one missing board that couldn't be done because of the scaffolding...about 6 months ago!
Only a handrail to fit on the balcony and another coat of paint in places and the job is done!
I now declare this driveway and garage open....
So for the first time ever a car enters the driveway!
Two cars in the garage... so cars parked and the cladding and decks all done ..
a successful weekend!
