Second Fix
07 October 2008Lights Camera Action..we have power!!! Sockets and light fittings powered up and not a single plasterboard screw through a cable! Well done Jimmy!!!
All lighting is low energy...using a mixture of CFL and LED technology even for GU10 fittings..

Plumber is onsite and fitting the bathrooms out....

Packs of Bamboo are opened up ready for fitting in a few days time...starting with the girls rooms...bought myself a brand new portnailer for the job!

Poor Owen comes all the way over from Fife...arrives before me in the morning and then the rain slows action for the entire day...yup he'll just have to come back on a better day for some extreme cladding...that said he got to play with a Paselode for a while so I'm sure it wasn't too bad! Thanks for the help Owen....that's another one mugged!!!!

08 October 2008
Plumber is back today again and second fix continues...his new apprentice Emma does a supporting role teaching the plumber how to fit baths properly.. Everyone mucks in!

12 October 2008
Radiators fitted ... just standrad rads in the bedrooms..

14 October 2008
The night before...old temporary stair is removed...

A hole cut in the floor to accept the foot of the glulam...

A helping hand is provided by our plumber and the builders...teamwork. It took six of us to carry it! Initially tried from above but the safer option was to fit it from below..

Getting ready for the big lift..

Up it goes!

Its in!!!!! A central glulam spine with a dummy stringer which will be hidden inside the wall when I plasterboard it! Just when I thought plasterboarding was finished!!!

Made and fitted by Perth Joinery.... here its modelled by Jim from Perth Joinery!

27 October 2008
Box in the bath...

Box in toilet and try to make it look like its meant! A bit of a cock up would have been as well with a traditional cistern.....more plasterboarding ahead

Girls bathroom furniture goes in... note the ply fitted to the floor before tiling with screws in at exactly 150mm centres!

Our en- suite gets hanging cupboards...just as well that we put lots of wood in behind that plasterboard!

Worktop on...sinks in...taps fitted...where's the plumber? Over to him now..

Kitchen fitting...Start to build the island...Appliances set in place

Protective film still in place to keep the doors scratch free... Electrician was here so appliances powered up...come on wife get the supper on!

Finally Freeview set up and Satellite TV working ...all Jimmy's own work! HD TV...pity I don't own a plasma or LCD TV!!!!

28 October 2008
Jimmy gets up early and heads to site before going to work so that he can see the house with no scaffolding for himself... its off to work with a wee smile... happy with the progress so far!

Its dark by the time I get home so outside work is left for the weekends and now the priorities are what do I need to do to get in...
Bathrooms and kitchen are almost there so whilst we wait on the boiler and pumping station arriving....its time to work on the stairs and get the floors down!
Jimmy plays with his new portanailer and the strand woven bamboo which you will be seeing a lot of in the next week or so...

The final preparation for the staircase is made...

31 October 2008
Stairs get the first coat of Diamond Glaze - a special varnish with a super tough finish. Part of the stairs is stripped off to allow fitting of the plasterboard.

The dreaded bamboo flooring continues...living room done in two nights thanks to Laura's glueing and board selection and Ian's knocking into position ...Jimmy just stands and bangs in t nails with the portanailer...
