Cladding

05 October 2008
Well I'm running behind and not keeping as up to date with the website as I should. The last two weeks have been spent outside working on prep for the timber cladding which will go on the sides and the building frontage. Lots of framing to do.....technical stuff handled by Stevie my joiner..if I cock this up it will be seen forever!

There's lots of wedges and packers to get the walls perfectly lined up for all that Siberian Larch that's about to go on so that I can get rid of the scaffolding...

After a miserable wet summer Monday 5th Oct is a sunny day !

Cladding goes on...even in the dark!

Stevie the joiner is off on holiday so Jimmy is left to clad on his own!

Its a day and a half of work for Jimmy...assisted by Laura!

06 October 2008

Jimmy's handiwork so far!

Laura helps her dad whilst everyone else in the world has a holiday...

The painters paint more lengths to keep Jimmy fed with cladding!

The end of the day....all that painting and nailing and plumbing to make sure its straight!....

08 October 2008

After yesterdays downpour we are back cladding in the sunshine! Owen returns to help again and this time he brings his wife Fiona to paint !!! They must be mad!!!

We can't move for coated timber....Jimmy and Owen need to fit it faster!

Another high level vertical section completed...

The wire hanging out the wall is for cylindrical lights shining up and down to show off the Siberian Larch in the dark...I'm not going to all this trouble without showing it off at its best!

12 October 2008

The holiday is over..its back to work tomorrow but its been a great week of progress with big chunks of cladding done. Its almost enough to allow me to drop the scaffolding and work at a lower level. Need to get rid of the pesky scaffolding..its costing a fortune.

High up windows over living room and kitchen now done, both sides done only the section in the central recess to go.

14 October 2008
Its dark by 7pm now so I have to get used to cladding by artificial light...not the best idea but I need to get the scaffolding down...so...

work goes on...

Another section completed...

18 October 2008
Cladding at a high level is almost done...We have finished the cladding itself to a more reasonable height...this weekend the target is to clad the steel beam at high level using this timber.. to get the outside lights on, to fit the tv mast and satellite dish and fit the decking boards...then I can get rid of the scaffolding!!!! Lets hope it doesn't rain!

Fit the decks...using this...my wife hates me...just as she thinks she's finished painting...I bring in even more timber! The process starts again!

So with support from my mum, Pauline and Grant, who not only help with the painting, but empty the scaffolding all of spare wood and bring us wine...these are the friends you need!!! ...still its another weekend spent painting timber!

The cladding is given a third coat insitu and it starts to darken down and take a rich colour.. the final coat from a distance..

And close up!!!!

Next door have dropped their scaffolding already, so this gives you an idea of the finished result...they have painted the timber canopy blue to match the windows and went for cedar in a board on board profile which will be left to weather to a silvery grey...

19th Oct 08 continued..

High Level decking is added to the living room and kitchen.
A ripped timber is bolted on to the cladding and secured with 150mm x 10mm coach screws, shouldn't fall down!

Kitchen deck fitted minus a board because of the scaffolding pole!!!

Living room deck didn't suffer from the same problem so it was all done!

This is for window cleaning access and shade from direct sun in the summer...sun????...in Scotland????

It probably seems odd in the list of priorities but sat dish and tv mast fitted ...easier now than off a ladder!!

Their cold, wet, fed up dumping rubbish and shuffling things around...but still managing a smile......

Here's the results of all their efforts ...too wet to paint so they tidied up the site

The steel beam is now clad in timber....

and we have external lights!!!!

19 Jan 09
Spend the good days between Christmas and new year working outside on the cladding.. See Jimmy's lovely front door. Designed by me made by Perth Joinery!

See the marker lights as well as the lovely door oh and the scratch coat applied....Must really keep the website more up to date!

Cladding to be applied to above what will be the garage door... framing out and pinching scraps of frameshield to make do!

Job Done....well almost!

Finished now ...just the tools to put away!

14 March 09

A nice day for a change after a long , wet and cold winter...so lets get outside and crack on with framing the bottom half of the house...There's a bit of head scratching trying to remember what to do!!!

Well there it is a whole days work! Ready for cladding!

Long way to go yet!
