Plasterboarding !

27 July 2008

Well its all ready to go so I can't put it off any longer..the moment I have been dreading..starting plasterboarding...its the fear of having missed something... but time to get going so ..here it is..

Jimmy set a new world record... the longest time ever to plasterboard a ceiling 11 hours for one room! Never to do things by halves... no plasterboarding experience.....using 3 metre sheet, on a sloping ceiling with a screw gun... not the best combination!

However lessons learned quickly and progress improves on saturday with  the guest bedroom sheeted in half the time..including insulating the roof space with acoustic wool..

Sunday sees the dining room blitzed and the living room...but it was a 8.30am start and an 11pm finish and that was with help from the Wallaces!!!! See Jimmy's plasterboarding machine in operation!!! Absolutely fantastic machine ...thanks to ebay!

So thats the ceilings done in the kitchen, guest room, dining room and living room....time for a bottle of wine!

29 July 2008

Its been a bit of fits and bursts over the last 2 days...still bits and pieces for the electrician and plumber to do so there is a need to be selective with where the plasterboard goes until their next visit. So it means Jimmy needs to fit some more ceiling insulation...its horrible stuff so protection is required :o) Here we see our hero prepared for action!

So with a delivery of plasterboard and 6 pairs of hands another 72 sheets of foil backed plasterboard are spread around the building and Jimmy gets to work getting them on the walls. The boost it gives having extra hands is amazing! Dining room gets a bit of plasterboard!

Then by 10pm one entire wall in the living room / study is done. Many hands make light work!

At long last we have managed to get rid of our portable roadway. One thing ticked off the list. It was supplied by Fieldtrack Limited. If you ever need something like it for yourself give them a call and ask for David. Great service and we posed them some great problems with a steep driveway and tight access but they took it in their stride! See the technical information page...

31 July 2008

Jimmy is still hard at the plasterboarding... having to jump around a bit whilst final cables are ran for lighting circuits... however I hope you can all see it taking shape...from this update..

From living room through dining room to kitchen..

In living room looking into study with Jimmy's own personal stage!

Another timber delivery from Orchard Timber Products in Forfar...

My cat is wondering when the fish tank is coming...

Another late night finish....

02 August 2008

Charles from Sips Industries drops in on us with his helicopter and offers Jimmy the chance to take some photos.... Never been in a helicopter before so he didn't have to ask twice...

We are in the air!

Spot the green roofs! Proper roof comes soon...

Hovering in the field in front of the house...

So Jimmy survived and was not sick! Jimmys house on the right, Ian's on the left

Charles heads off home leaving Jimmy to his plasterboarding!

05 August 2008

Well Jimmy is back to his full time job after 2 weeks off...so progressed slows from the 15 hours per day I was doing ! to a pathetic 4 hours per night....if only I didn't have to work! Well anyway the plumber has been and tested all the pipework with an air compressor to 4 bar pressure...no leaks so we are good to go downstairs.Builders are back constructing walls...back wall of the house and supporting walls for the suspended driveway...This concrete pad will be home to our pellet boiler in the near future...if I can find someone to sell me one!

The final wall to be plasterboarded upstairs ! So work has started on it...

06 August 2008

A handy hint from our plumber... wrap a layer of DPC round the plastic pipe at every point where it goes through a joist ...reason why??? Stops any squeaking when taps are turned on or the heating starts up...so Wendy gets on with it whilst plasterboarding continues...

Look at the pretty pipe runs and neat cabling... A work of art!

09 August 2008

Plasterboarding continues...some more plywood is fitted behind the plasterboard, this time to hold up my projector which will beam a tv picture onto the living room wall..another late night...

Whilst Jimmy works upstairs everyone else parties downstairs!!!

Also my Siberian Larch has arrived so its getting two coats of Sikkens before it goes on the roof. Much to the disgust of everyone...lots of work with a paintbrush!

10 August - out at a bbq last night until 3.30am so Sunday is a slower day...but made up for it by getting people drunk and talking them into helping us today !!! So a big hit is made over the weekend!!

So we make a partition wall for the small cloakroom at the front hallway..

And its finished...toilet in... not ready for use though!

Keiran - happy to help! A chance to play with power tools ! Mugged at the bbq last night and convinced that it would be a great way to spend his free time!

My ever happy ceiling insulating team ! They have started work downstairs!

19 August 2008

The final part of upstairs..construction of the guest room en-suite... !!
