If you have a look at the pictures on the concept page you will see a few little sticks and an extension to the front of the roof....Well here we go we are off to build it !!! Will we manage ??? Only time will tell....

Well at long last Ian's Canopy is virtually completed so work gets under way with Jimmy's version which will obviously be much more beautiful and better than Ian's ...just like me really!
We are treating the timber with Sikkens Novatec or fake tan as the architect calls it...so its a family job to get a first coat on before erection starts..

The rim joists and the floor joists go on for the balcony which is all part of it.. Jimmy is going to build it through the scaffolding which should be entertaining...

Its 11pm and Jimmy's just home after securing down the feet which will support the timber canopy..a fiddly job but its got to be right...so tomorrow should see good progress...

Jimmy's Canopy starts... Poor Steve is on-site on his birthday & Ian is helping on my side now that his canopy is virtually completed...no pictures of the birthday boy but I'll catch him yet...anyway it makes for speedy progress .... two legs up in one night... look at the lovely fake tan on the timber...my architect is gonna hate it!!!!

More timber is prepared for tomorrow...!

Builder continues on with supporting walls for the raised driveway..

Well at long last after a few issues at rafter stage with rafters coming off, going back on and then being stripped again we get it right ... to Jimmy's satisfaction!

A view from the roof.

The rafters go on to form the roof shading. This is about 8 metres up ! Note the steel beam and don't ask how we got that up there !!!!

We interrupt plasterboarding to crack on with the roof. Have waited for a few weeks to get my Siberian Larch in a halflap profile. When it arrived I was then held up with rain...Its rained almost every day for two weeks! However...with help from many, many people including my children, my friends, my mother, my in laws and some of the neighbours... we have two coats of Sikkens applied and its ready to fit. I have a joiner helping also to overcome some of the technical issues and speed up the job. So we are back on the canopy..
The ugly side! Not Jimmy, the timber you silly people!

And the pretty side.. I like it !!!!

The corners are done..

The final stages on the roof before the finished surface is fitted...Jimmy's work is done on the roof! Am I glad! Its also the first time we have seen blue sky for around 2 weeks.

02 September 2008
The jury is out on this one... It appears that Jimmy is the only pewrson in the world who likes my new super shiny roof!

05 September 2008 -the missing sheets arrive...looking back through my photos I don't know why so many have a blue sky because the whole summer has looked like this!!!

02 November 2008
With a weekend that was cold in the morning but dry and quite mild throughout we took the chance to get boards cut for the balcony..

Decking boards cut, set in place and the bi fold doors opened for the first time ever!

Whilst we build the canopy, the builders work away on the underbuilding and driveway..I am sure it doesn't make sense to most of you but it will soon...its been a struggle due to two weeks of almost daily rainfall..

Cladding the canopy with Siberian Larch is complete.Next stage is to protect it with roof shield ahead of the proper roof coming.. the underside view..pity about the scaffolding
